Doing it the right way, Devon style!
Here at Sypped we're all about standing alongside the small man and supporting the wine industry in the most moral way possible and that's exactly what our good friends, Dominic and Alan at the Wine Room stand for, backed up with their ceaseless quest to source sustainable, organic and artisanal wine, spirits, liqueurs, beers and coffee, the latter made freshly for their many loyal and adoring customers as they peruse the fine produce available on the shelves. Many a time have I ventured into the Wine Room to be greeted by the intoxicating aroma of freshly ground Ecuadorian coffee beans and the dulcet tones of New Orleans jazz, being emitted from a vinyl gramophone with a suitable amount of hiss and crackle; alongside freshly polished pine floorboards and a stunning array of wines to sample, atop vintage French oak barriques, acting as replacements for the standard table one may find at your average establishment, the place smacks of authenticity, it's endearing, it's alluring, it's addictive and I bloody love it!
The Wine Room also host regular tastings, last year's highlight being a night with the infamous Washington winery, Chateau Ste Michelle and this year on April 7th they will hold a Protos tasting, Protos being possibly the most prestigious winery in the Ribera, followed by a Catena Zapata tasting on June 7th, showcasing the best of Mendozan Malbec with the winery's flagship wine, Catena Alta being there for all who attend to indulge in. As well as the Wine Room's regular tastings, they also hold special 'one off' food and wine tastings with the innovative and highly sought after, local Devon chef, Jane Baxter and her pop-up restaurant, Wild Artichokes the next event will be held on September 22nd, with a carefully selected flight of Spanish wines to pair alongside some exquisite Spanish dishes. All details of upcoming events can be found here
Please check out the Wine Room's webpage for all the necessaries and give Dominic and Alan a chance, you won't regret it!
