UPDATE 08/12: $710 IN 6 MONTHS ON JUST UBER AND LYFT ALONE
If you live in a populated city, you'll have noticed the sheer takeover of 'ride services' in the past year. In fact, you probably can't go five minutes without seeing a pink moustache zooming by. It's made travel much more convenient, but for the smart folk its also made it a heck of a lot cheaper, even free.
The following article, although pretty straight forward when you think about it, enables money-savers and bargain opportunists to travel pro-bono whilst also helping these companies expand their businesses. A win/win right?
So whats the technique? Simple. A little effort + Referrals.
Step 1) DOWNLOAD THE APPS
Download the most frequently utlized ride apps through App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android):

Step 2) - PROMO CODES
Ensure you ENTER A PROMO CODE to get your $15-30 free credit at the relevant stage in the sign-up process. (You'll have a choice to do this when filling in your billing details or once you've signed up under the 'promo code' section - either way DON'T BOOK YOUR FIRST RIDE until you've done this or it won't work)
There are two ways you can get promo codes. Firstly you can shoot out a message to your friends asking them if they have referral codes (this will get them a nice little referral credit too) or if you are strapped for time then feel free to use my referral codes [p.s. Thank you!! :-)]

Step 3) - CONGRATS!
You've now earned yourself 4 free rides (of $15-25) around the city just by signing up - nice work!
Step 4) - GIMME MY CODES!
This one is easy, just log into each app on your device and send yourself a 'referral email'. The email should include the code! The only tricky one is SideCar, for that I would suggest emailing customer service directly (support@side.cr).
Step 5) - REFERRAL TIME!
Most people go wrong here - they assume that by just spamming their contact list with an email from each ride service will get them a tonne of free rides - WRONG! The trick is to find one person at a time who is interested in saving money and getting 4 free rides. So find a friend, girlfriend, boyfriend, colleague, anyone who is interested and do the following:
- Have them download each app (you may want WiFi for this)
- Have YOUR promo codes handy so they can input them during sign-up
- Reap your rewards! - When they use their free ride you'll get referral credit too!
Step 6) - RIDE & REPEAT!
